Solve : check CPU usage?

Answer»

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me here. The last two days, i've been watching over the CPU Usage and PF Usage because i noticed that my computer has been very slow lately. I have always run AV and Anti Spyware pretty much very frequently.

Now, i just want to ask a silly question here for confirmation. In the task manager, i check the processes there everytime CPU usage is 100%. I think that would give me indication of which process actually consumes the usage. Am i right? or there is other things i need to check as well. Is there any way to figure out which process use how much of cpu usage? any other software that might do that for us?

My computer RUNS on XP Pro

Thank you in advanceThere should be a column named CPU, under it are the PERCENTAGES of how much of the cpu that process is using. If there's not, click View, Select Columns, then check CPU Usage.

100percent is rather high, unless you've got an OLD machine or you're running software that uses your idle processor for itself, such as [emailprotected]Thank you Anodoin,

Yes, i can see that (CPU) column there. I can see that there are a number of processes that have high Mem Usage (about 47,840K). I think, this would affect the PF usage. The other day, i saw PF Usage climbed up beyond the RAM size. It's about 2.1G. I've got only 1G RAM on the computer. It really worried me. I then restarted those processes and then i could see a bit of relief happening there. Don't know why it's doing that. Any ideas?

Thank you in advance What are all of the processes you are typically running? Which ones have the high Mem Usage? I wouldn't necessarily be worried about those numbers, but it definitely sounds like something is hogging up your resources. Do you have any Norton or McAfee PRODUCTS on your computer? Although normally used for detecting infections, a HijackThis log could help us determine what might be the problem. I would also suggest getting Process EXPLORER.
