Solve : Checking whether a file is dll or exe ???

Hello everybody ,

PLS do helpout me..
My QUESTION is , how to examine whether a file is dll or exe by getting input as file characteristics in hex???
Actually by seeing the file characteristics we can say this file is dll or this file is exe . i.e. if this flag IMAGE_FILE_DLL is set to 1 we can say it is a dll file...
i need a simple code or logic to check whether the given file is dll or exe by passing file characteristics as input ....
