Restore partitions are a poor substitute for a real XP CD. You cannot do a repair install, for starters. Ditto for a restore CD. :-/After re-reading this thread i NOTICED the machine is still under warranty...i'd back up what i needed and make use of it.That was suggested but the OP didn't want to do it - too busy. And there you have it... I tried before. They refused to respond to any emails i sent and whenever i call them, no matter what time of day it is, i get re-directed to a india call center who informs me that i need to wait till their singapore office is available as they cannot HELP with singapore problems.

How the *censored* is their office not available at 3 pm?

YEAH, i've heard from other sources that Toshiba support is LACKING.  If you know someone who has a Windows XP CD, you might be able to use it to do a repair installation.  You will need your Microsoft product key, of course (it should be printed on a label affixed to the COMPUTER).
