:(I am trying to install a digital camera software.   The
reason given for not installing is because of Code 1 ( The
device is not configured correctly) and Code 28.  Manufacturer says useing Windows 98 start up CD will
correct the problem.  Misplaced CD.  Is there a way of correcting this problem without the start up CD?Did no software come with the camera its self?TO Raptor:  Software came with the camera.  I have
uninstalled software, reinstalled and get same Code
errors.  The software loads up and seems to work
except the pictures won't download from camera.  What are you using to transfer the photos from the camera to the hard disk?

You may be able to  get the proper drivers from either the Microsoft website or the Photo camera's manufacturer their website.  the camera software came on a CD with the
camera.  I carried the PC to a computer repair place.
uninstalled and reinstalled the software. when the
prompt to insert Windows 98SE start up disk came up,
the 98 Windows CD was inserted in drive.  As the
manufacturer SAID would happen, the errors were
corrected (Code 1 and Code 28).  the software program
works.

No computer owner can be without one..Thats where win9x wins over winxp. ..no disk required..find the c:\windows \options cabs\folder and there is an ICON called SETUP click this this will re-install win98se without the disk? and ...i would load the software first then plug-in the usb cable for you camera....and have just re-installed winxp home edition....i would adviced all winxp user to disable remote access..for one..of many...
