Solve : Compaq Evo N1020v wont boot windows 7 cd?

Answer»

Hey so my Compaq Evo N1020v is running windows xp home edition service pack 3.  I can of course pop in a windows xp boot cd and it gives me the "press any key to boot from cd" screen but when i pop in a windows 7 upgrade disc.  The cd player gives a few clicks and doesnt even show that screen.  It bypasses it and goes straight to the windows xp logo screen. Can anyone help?Hi,

As you are trying to upgrade from an upgrade DVD, you need to logon to your existing windows version (Windows XP Home) and then put the DVD to upgrade.
LET your machine boot from HDD with windows XP and then put the DVD when desktop is up.

Note: As per my knowledge you can not upgrade from Windows xp Home to Windows 7 Profissional or Ultimate, however you can try to upgrade Windows XP home to Windows 7 home. Please let me know the result.I did that but my machine stil doesnt see the cd even on the desktop. I put the cd in and it sounds like its THINKING about playing the windows 7 disc but then just stops.Where is this "Win7" CD from ? ? Quote from: patio on May 31, 2010, 12:17:27 PM

Its from an ASUS upgrade. I that makes sense and even if the cd is not meant for that COMPUTER it still doesnt make sense why it shouldnt at least boot to it.1 CD = 1 machine....
Besides the upgrade CD's are not bootable.

Can't assist with you installing it to another machine...Sorry.actually patio that is not true. I have booted the cd on an emachine, asus, and toshiba.  in which i have installed windows 7 Home Premium on each of them. I know the one cd per computer thing but my computers seem to ignore that. Im just having troubles with the xp.
