Answer» Hey guys, long...long time.
My dad got his laptop reformatted because of some problem or something and now whenever his computer boots, he gets an option of 2 operating systems, both Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition. Both of them do the same thing.
I checked his boot settings by right clicking My computer and going to the advance tab and this is what I got:
Code: [SELECT][boot loader] timeout=5 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
I was wondering if I could just delete Code: [Select]multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetectso the OS choices menu doesn't keep coming up.Yes you can, DELETING the SECOND line will remove the non default boot choice. You should notice though that the two choices are referencing two different partitions (partition(1)/partition(2)). Are you sure he doesn't have two XP installations here? Sure looks that way. Who did the format & reinstall? Quote Are you sure he doesn't have two XP installations here? Nope, both options do the exact same thing.
QuoteSure looks that way. Who did the format & reinstall? Don't KNOW. He said he was having problems and he brought it down to our friend at the computer store here.
Anyways, THANKS for that. I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't screw his laptop up It won't...but he does have 2 XP installs...
