Solve : Computer constantly overwrites keyboard input?

Answer»

So you know how, if you use Microsoft Word, and hit the "insert" key, it toggles to and from "OVERWRITE" and "pushing the text to the right"?

My daughter pushed a button, or a combination of buttons, on her computer, and REGARDLESS of what program is on (Word, email, anything), the computer overwrites any text to the right of the cursor.

I looked in "CONTROL panel", under "keyboard", and that's no help.

I am guessing that it is a shift+ or control+, or alt+, or a combination of those characters, and MAYBE a function key, or even an alphabetic key, but I can't find help in the computer.

Can anyone tell me the magic combination?

Alan <>< Thank you for the suggestion. I went to the site, and printed the list. We will try it tonight.

It looks like most of the commands apply to Word only. I may ultimately need one that "leaks" out of Word and into the system, because the problem apparently occurs with non-Word programs.

Just out of curiosity....

Haven't seen LATIN in a while. Are you Jesuit, other order, non-order, or someone who believes in the two phrases you listed in your reply?

See if this helps, go to email and see if it is still doing it, if it is just tap the Insert key again to get back to normal.
This should work unless you have a different problemOr go to Control Panel/System/Device Manager and find the keyboard...right clik it and select remove.

Upon re-boot Windows will reinstall it with the factory defaults.
