Solve : Computer Crashes?

Answer»

My desktop computer uses Windows 7. I can only run my computer for about 5-minutes or so before it crashes and shuts off. I've tried to restore the system but it doesn't stay on long enough to COMPLETE the restore process. The same is true when I've tried to run a virus SCAN using McAfee (the computer just won't stay running long enough to do any repair work). What can I do to bring life back to my computer? At first blush it sounds like a hardware problem. Could be anything from the power supply to the hd to ram or even the cpu. Most likely culprit (based on the scant info provided) is the power supply. You can, however, check the ram and hd as follows:

To check the ram, download memtest (http://memtest.org/). Burn it to a cd using a dedicated .iso burning utility (http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm), make sure the cd drive is at the top of the boot order in bios, then boot to the newly created cd and run the utility.

Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, it'll create bootable FLOPPY, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of.isotype, useImgBurn:http://www.imgburn.com/to burn.isofile to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), to make the CD bootable.

Wow! Thanks, Allan, for your help. I will immediately begin to implement the SUGGESTIONS you offered.
Thanks again!
