Solve : Computer crashing @ random?

Answer»

My computer crashes and I never know when it is going to happen. Will a Registry Cleaner do the trick for me or do I need something more sophisicated?DO NOT use any registry cleaners - now or ever.

Please provide more information about the problem you are having.I have an HP Pavilion A6400F Windows Vista OS. The computer at times will freeze, however here of late it has been crashing, shuting down and then restarting, sometimes it will restart a couple times and then the desk top screen will appear. I never know when when this is going to happen.
Sometimes it will go to the blue screen with crash data and at other times it will go to the safe mode-start normal black screen.Does the blue error screen stay up? If so, please post the ENTIRE contents of that screen here next time you SEE it. If not, go to System Properties - Advanced - Startup & Recovery Settings and uncheck "automatically restart". Reboot. Next time there's an error the blue screen should remain up. I am having a similar problem with Win 7 (64 bit) although I might have a clue as to what is going on. After one crash Windows offered to run a memory TEST, and when it got to about 2% done it reported a "Hardware problem". Being Windows, of course it doesn't say WHAT hardware problem beyond the obvious, nor which SIMM is funky, but it is probable as I upgraded to 8 Gb when I went from XP to Win 7.

Of course, it STILL might be something else, so if it happens again before I take the beast into the shop I will try to post the crash dump here. Thanks for the tip about turning off the auto restart.

BTW why the hostility about registry cleaners? I usually uncheck it when I do my weekly cleanup/virus check/backup with Norton 360, but I have never had a problem when I have let it run.Quote

You are having problems NOW!I Haven't run a registry cleaner since doing a (second!) clean install of Win7, so that has nothing to do with the problems I am having.I assume when the blue screen comes up I am to transpose everything the screen says to this post by hand am I correct? I dont see any other way of doing it.Quote from: jbsturg888 on March 02, 2010, 05:31:11 AM

You can take a pic of it or yes, copy the key details (error number, name, any associated files mentioned)

Please start your own thread. You'll get better help and you won't be interfering with our attempts to help the Original Poster in this thread.Allan: I went in and removed the memory and CLEANED the pins and reinstalled same. Havent had a problem since. Your info. is invaluable so if the blue screen comes up I will post the info. Thanks a million. Jeff
