Solve : computer does not power down on shut down.?

I recently installed win 2K. Previously with win 98 my computer would power down on shut down. Now I get a messasge"it is safe to turn off power" but i must manually turn off the power. How can fix this to automatically turn off the power on shut down?

The computer is a DELL Dimension xps T 450. The hard drive was repartitioned and reformated before installation.

J.S.ACPI SETTINGS in BIOS/Setup perhaps? Is this a Dell by chance? Make and model is always a helpful thing to know.That sounds like a 98 leftover, did you do a DIRTY install of w2k?The computer is a dell Dimension XPS 450. What is a dirty install?On a GX1, you have to ADJUST the ACPI to off in the Setup (F2 on startup)You've gotta just love those edited posts. OK.
It does show how supplying more info can reduce WASTED questions though.
