Answer» Hello, My computer which uses Windows XP has started freezing up. I can't turn it off by using control, alt, delete or by the on/off button. I unplug it but when I plug it back in the fan goes really, really fast and loud and nothing works. So I keep unplugging it and eventually it will let me start it again normally. I'm really not a computer person so I don't KNOW anything about drivers or codes or any of the stuff, so I'm sorry I can't give you more detail. Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance. Do you use peer to peer downloads......have you downloaded and installed any new programs lately.
Please POST your PCs specifications as well.....how old is the PC?Think it's a hardware issue. 1. Please, post some computer info: - processor type, amount of RAM (hold Windows logo key, hit Pause/Break key) - hard drive size/free SPACE (open "My Computer", right click on hard drive letter, click "Properties") - security programs in use (antivirus, firewall)
2. Download, and install SpeedFan: http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php Post your computer temperatures:
PROVIDE processor info (hold Windows key, and hit Pause/Break key to find out).
It's also not a good idea to unplug your computer like that.. Just saying.Well if that's the only thing he can do to turn off the computer. Just be careful can cause corruption of some files on your PC.

I've been doing that for ages. As long as you have no windows open, you're good. (or atleast I am)The only problem is when a window is open or let's say a program is RUNNING then the PC just freezes.
