Solve : Computer is just messed up..?

Answer»

I got rid of Vista because my internet and sound weren't working after getting it back after someone put Vista on it after working on it. I tried to install windows XP, I'm not sure if it installed right. I'm having issues, when I start up the computer it SAYS "failed to find disk....." with a black screen and I press enter and it just KEEPS repeating it. Pretty much I reformatted my computer and nothing is on it and I'm trying to get windows and everything to work again. It wasn't finding internet or sound or anything really I don't have any drive cds or anything, just an upgrade of Windows XP. I'm assuming something is wrong inside the computer? It just keeps saying "Failled to boot from disk" or something like that. When I can get to the main screen it doesn't recognize anything, like sound or display or internet.

OP: XP Home
processor: AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ MMX
Memory: 2046MB RAM
47MB used 3896MB available

Under display it doesn't say anything
Under sound it doesn't say anything ....it says no sound card was foundI tried changing the boot device priority between hard disk and cdrom but nothing worked there. It can't boot from the disk because you wiped it. and since you only have a upgrade disc you'll need to buy a retail copy that you can install.Quote

If this is your hard disk you have got to be missing some digits. At a minimum XP takes 1.5 GB.Quote from: servo925 on November 27, 2009, 09:18:04 PM

1. Current Status. Your post is unclear. It seems to contradict itself. What is your current status? Can you or can you not boot Windows XP Home off the hard drive? Can you successfully log into it?

2. Doesn't Recognize Anything. For the components integrated onboard the motherboard, you need to download and install the motherboard drivers. If a brand name computer, go to download/support page of their website; otherwise go to the download/support page of motherboard manufacturer website. Install the chipset drivers first, reboot, then install the other drivers. Not sure if order matters. For what it is worth, here is the order that Dell recommends: Installing Drivers in the Correct Order.

3. Which Computer. If a brand name computer, what is the make and model name/number; otherwise the make and model number of the motherboard.1. I have windows 98, I used the upgrade for Windows XP

2. My current status is that my computer doesn't work, it starts up windows xp but it can't find anything (sound, display drivers, internet) it didn't come with any cds, someone built my computer....it doesn't find the internet which I need to install and update drivers. It also keeps saying "failed to boot up disk" all the time, even after changing the order in BIOS.

I guess I just need a new computer all together because they didn't do it right. Thanks anyway. You don't need a new computer, you just need to install the OS correctly - and of course you need the correct drivers (chipset driver, video, audio, & network drivers).Your computer is much better than the one I'm currently working on and appears to be working as designed (or almost - not sure why you get "failed to boot up disk", but we can address that later).

As both Allan and I have suggested, you need to install the drivers for the onboard components of your motherboard (and then you'll probably have internet, display, sound, whatever). This is a very common problem that many people have overcome.

You don't have to download the drivers you need from the computer that NEEDS them. You may download and save them on another computer system and then transfer them to your computer for installation using whatever means is available (CD-R disc, floppy disk, null-modem serial cable, IEEE 1284 parallel cable; probably don't have USB functionality yet without chipset drivers installed).

With some time, research, and creativity; you should be able to get Windows XP working on your system. Please don't throw money away on a new computer. I don't think it's NECESSARY.
