The computer will just shut off once I reach my desktop.

I wonder if thats coincidental with the length of time it takes to overheat...... Curtis reseat your ram and blow out the slots with some compressed air....make sure all your cards are well SEATED and all connections are good.....make sure that heatsink is flush to the motherboard all around.Where is the ram?Have a look at these...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiFIgSQOY7gThanks Karnac! I will check it out.If you have more than 1 RAM stick, try starting computer with 1 stick at a time.
While inside, make sure to re-seat RAM, and video card (if any). Thanks Broni....would Memtest be next?Software test is ALWAYS less reliable, than just physical check.
If there is only 1 RAM stick, then, there is no other option, but memtest.Quote from: Curtis789 on June 13, 2009, 06:56:45 PM
Where is the ram?

I got a little worried here but Curtis should be OK.In the cmd prompt after inserting ur Xp disk type the following command:

"sfc /scannow"

This will fix the corrupted windows files.Problem solved!

I had my computer checked out by some guy from work who works on computers and is very knowledgeable about this stuff. It turns out that it was the switch and the wire connected to the switch that is USED to turn on the computer. It was going bad and that is why it kept restarting, etc. He says everything else on the computer is in pretty good shape and now it's working great again!

Thanks for all your help here! Thanks for coming back with the update
