Sorry, I was reading all the topics and I got switched off to safe mode.  Actually my computer is locked in power saver mode.  How it got there I don't know.  The processor sounds just like it did before, it sounds like it is STARTING up.  The monitor screen is black, no dell start up or windows start up, no start icon to click on.   The lights are on steady green on the tower and the monitor.  I have CHECKED all the connections and the electricity.  Help, I live in a very rural area and have just been able to get back to hi speed internet 2 months ago and now am UNABLE to use it! Did you try Safe Mode?How do I get in safe mode when nothing shows up on monitor screen?I assume then, when you start the computer, there is COMPLETELY nothing on the screen, correct?
If so, try different monitor, or try THIS monitor with another computer.It is a flat screen, SOMETIMES you see the windows xp just for a second, sometimes not, I have checked all the plugs, etc.  The processor sounds the same, the lights are on.   When I push one of the little buttons on the monitor it gives the message, in power saver mode push any key or move mouse, but this doesn't work.
