Solve : Computer locks up, CPU at 100%?

Answer»

I'm trying to get some music out of Itunes to put on my wife's laptop, from her desktop. Most programs run OK, but if too many are open or if I go to Itunes, it freezes up. I went to task manager and it showed CPU at 100%. Even if I start with itunes only it locks up. How can I get around this? I've done the basic cleaning with CC Cleaner, defragged, etc. Do I have to go under add/remove programs and just clear some things out? The computer is getting old and is getting slow. Can't remember how full the HD is. That's why she switched to the laptop, just want to get her music over there. What is the ACTUAL method of doing the "transfer " you are attempting for these files? truenorthI was going to copy songs to a jumpdrive and transfer. But itunes freezes up right away. There is 5GB left on a 75GB hard drive, so I guess I'll have to remove some programs. Not sure which ones should go. So it would appear that all you are trying to do in the transfer is with the i-tunes window open and the flash drive window open as well you are dragging and dropping them from one open window to the other.Correct? While you certainly are very low on available HDD space that fact should be AFFECTING more than just this process. If those programs/files whatever that have filled your HDD are things that you don't want to lose then i suggest another HDD (my preference would be external-but if space is available internal). However if your having problems when you try to transfer files now then that could be a problem when you want to transfer stuff to another HDD as well. When you do the i-tunes (try) transfers to the flash drive are you doing them one song at a time or a bunch? It just occurred to me (though i have transferred songs from i-tunes to a portable Mp3 player a long time ago) is it possible that i-tunes library (APPLE) LIMITS transfers to an Apple device? Some other member that uses i-tunes more than i do may wish to input on that aspect. Can you transfer other files particularly audio or video files currently to an external device?truenorthThe main issue is the lack of Free space on that HDD...Windows by nature needs some breathing space even for copying /moving files...

Some serious housekeeping is in order...
In the meantime you can try to copy/move the INFO in smaller increments.
