Solve : computer looks like safe mode?

Answer»

I formatted my hard drive and re-installed windows 98. Now my computer operates like in the safe MODE i.e. mouse movement is slow and only displays 640 x 480. I tried loading the monitor.*inf FILE from the restoration CD, but windows tells me it is not the correct driver for my hardware. I load the driver anyway and then I can change the display settings. But when I restart the system, it GOES back to 640 x 480. I check the hardware under device manager and the correct monitor is listed under monitors, and the correct driver under display adapters. I don't know what else to do. Could something be wrong with my graphics accelerator card? It's built into the motherboard. You might need to update your drivers for the monitor issue. In the device manager, right click on the monitior, and click update drivers. For the slow mouse movement, it could be that you don't have enough memory on your computer. Do you think that you could give me some more info. on your computer such as memory, etc.? More information would help.      (Make sure that when you try to update your drivers, that you are connected to the internet)

[glb]Flame[/glb]Your are using a driver not required for your computer to properly function. The monitor driver is useful if you can find it, but not necessary if the monitor is Plug and Play.

What you need are videocard drivers. Obtain these from the manufacturer of your videocard. Quote

Hey thanks for the speedy replies. Here's the deal. Afterinstalling Win98, I go to mycomputer, CNTRL pnnl, dsply, settings, advanced. I then click the adapter tab and Standard PCI Vga adapter is listed. Under the monitor tab is listed PnP monitor. I checked the manufacturer's website (Gateway) and they said that after a CLEAN install, I have to manually install the monitor file from the system restoration CD. My computer is: Gateway, PII, 300mHz, 5GB HD. Thanks.Hey thanks for the speedy replies. Here's the deal. Afterinstalling Win98, I go to mycomputer, cntrl pnnl, dsply, settings, advanced.
