Solve : Computer restarts but won't boot up. Instead it beeps.? |
|
Answer» Our computer repeatedly restarts, but instead of turning back on and booting up, it gives long beeps. To turn it off, we have to unplug it. The monitor displays the " Self test. Check your PC and Signal CABLE. Monitor is working." message like it does when only the monitor is on. ...After leaving the computer alone overnight, it works again and will boot up. We first started getting this problem in early May, and then it would be fine for at least a week, but now we have two hours at the most before it shuts down...This is an indication that something is overheating. Follow Patio's suggestions.Quote from: patio on July 13, 2010, 06:19:29 PM PS When's the last time you did any housekeeping on this machine inside the case ? ? I ran the disk defragmenter Mon. night, and I tried to run the disk clean up, but the computer started being difficult. Will swapping a PSU from a Windows 98 work? If so, how do you do it?Quote but the computer started being difficult. Be more specific... As to the PSU swap i probably wouldnt do it with one from a Win98 machine...if yours is newer which it probably is an older PSU probably doesn't have enough juice to test properly...you need one of the same or greater wattage # as the one you have... Ask around...again don't BUY one yet as we don't know if it's the issue... Quote Will swapping a PSU from a Windows 98 work? If so, how do you do it? 10 to 20 minutes with someone who has done it before...OKAY.... if the PSU swap won't work with the Win98, which the only other computer I would be able to do it with, how do you run a memtest? |
