Answer» I ran Belarc Advisor on my computer this evening. One of the COMPUTERS on my network is now SHOWING up as a "file server", which it most definitely isn't. I have tried to find some guidance on the INTERNET with no success, and am concerned that this represents a security breach of some sort, although all the computers on my network have current virus and spyware protection.
Any ideas on where I should start to resolve this concern would be greatly appreciated.RichM,
Is this particular pc sharing any files? If so that may be the reason why it's being described as a file server. Now if it isn't sharing any files then you may need to worry about a security breach. Belarc is notorious for reporting things that aren't there... Overall it's an OK tool in a pinch but i've seen some woozies over the years.
I SUGGEST Everest Home and/or SIW ( system info for Windows ) ...both Free.Drivenbywhat and Patio, thank you for your replies.
The only major software that was on that PC and not the other ones was Skype, so I tried disabling that. That did the trick.
Not sure why Skype was tricking Belarc into thinking that PC was a file server, but the problem seems to be resolved.
Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
