I need some help ASAP!!! My Compaq Presario 2700 laptop keeps shutting down without warning. It starts up, brings me to my desktop and then i get an "error report" message. Then while my mouse still has the "loading" sign it just shuts down. My fan (which is unusually loud during this PROCESS, as if its overheating) goes off, and the power light turns off. This happens WHETHER its plugged/ unplugged so im guessing its not my battery  :-/ Help is much appreciated and needed soon--- my college essays are on there and the due date is soon!Have you tried to do anything hardware-wise to the laptop (overclocking, upgrades etc)?

It might at this point be worth removing the Hard Drive and copying the data onto another HD or other backing storage, or at least just your essays.

Basically, a hardware fault of some kind is all I can think of at this moment in time. Any major changes in the noises your computer makes is not normally a good sign...Control Panel/System/Advanced/Settings (Startup & Recovery)/System Failure/Uncheck-Automatically Restart And also check the power settings to never....Icon If these fail to work...(You can try placing the laptop on wood blocks)...dont laugh...This will improve air flow..And a final thing is to check the bios Power Settings...hthWell I took my computer into COMPUSA this morning and they said I have a major virus of some SORT. They are going to clean the hardware and if the virus is still there they will delete all my files. I can't even back them up now because the virus will just spread.   So frustrating! Thanks for the advice though guys  Better purchase an anti-virus program, too.
