Solve : Computer turning on by itself, blue screen automatically, etc?

Answer»

Alright, so I'm currently in Michigan but it seems like that my brother did something to my computer at home. So, it appears that when the computer turns on there's quickly this blue screen for less then a second and it's impossible for anyone to read it. I assumed it was the SMASH virus but I tried even activating the virus by getting my brother to turn off the computer as soon as he saw it but nothing happened. So there's this blue screen and then the computer screen goes black and restarts. This happens really quickly. Also, when the computer is off it's turning on by itself. I thought it might be something with the BIOS, but I couldn't figure out what options I do it with the BIOS. Any HELP? I'm figuring the only way out is to reformat the HDD but if that's the only OPTION then I'll just go ahead and send it into a pro to fix it up.Some information about the hardware, operating system, etc. could be helpful. If you haven't changed anything in the BIOS (and he hasn't) then that is not the place to start.

See below. Windows XP BUSINESS edition. It's not genuine. Hardware.. mmm.. HDD is 80GB Seagate Barracuda.. running an AMD Sempron 64 3000+ Socket 754.. Mobo I do not remember unfortunately. 2 512MB sticks of Kingston RAM DDR400 (PC3200). The video card is EVGA but I can't remember what model.

That's as much as I can remember. I have on CD drive and I've had no past problems before. I don't have my windows firewall up but I do have a firewall in my router. The problem is the first time ever. My computer has never randomly shut down or randomly turned on. My brothers activity is limited to Guild Wars MMORPG and some internet surfing. I use limewire pro for music. I use firefox as my web browser. and that's it.Quote from: Raferalston26 on May 20, 2007, 07:38:47 PM

I suspect this to be a major part of your problem. Unfortunately, we don't deal with illegal copies of Windows. Everyone needs a genuine copy of Windows sooner or later, and it appears to be sooner in your case.

(How's that, GX1_Man? Heh.)Perfect, CHRIS. Also, Limewire for music.

Get out of my shop you dirty pirate. So, if he hadn't mentioned he had a pirated copy of XP, you would have helped him?

Thats a little ironic .It's not an illegal copy. It's my FRIENDS. So, because I'm using my friends copy, you won't help me? Interesting.Quote from: Raptor on May 21, 2007, 07:12:34 AM

The hypocrisy!

...Being a "musician", it's the "Limewire" that's offended me more.

Also, how am I a hypocrite?Quote from: Raferalston26 on May 21, 2007, 09:23:15 AM

The Windows license calls for one purchased CD for one machine. It will be non-functional in 30 days, or your friend's will be, or both, once it is activated. It doesn't say in the EULA that you can use your friend's copy. Interesting.

As this is a public forum, one of the Administrator's requirements, and he is the boss, is that we do not help with warez, etc. Don't like that? There are some forums that don't care, but this is not one of them.
