Solve : computer turns it self off?

Answer»

Hey all,

My computer has started to turn itself off, as if the plug has been pulled.
Have no idea what to do or what caused it, its happened 3 times and now have jsut gotten
a blue screen.

I imagine its hardware, but have no way of checking which component is failing.

hope you can help,

cheersDLoad; install and run SpeedFan...post your temps here.thx for getting back to me so QUICKLY patio, ive got a quad core but ill just post what speedfan says:

temp 1 85c
temp2 30c
temp3 127c
core0 90c
core1 88c
core 2 81c
core 3 77c

think i get it, but lemme know what you think so im cyrstal

cheersDepending on what CPU that is those temps may be way high....
STOP using the machine til we find out...

Post your machine specs.thought it was quite hot when i saw the temps myself,
think it said 2 of the fans are off also,
but here's the spec anyway;

Corsair TX 650W ATX2.2 SLi Compliant PSU
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express)
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 2.40GHz Guaranteed to run at 3.00GHZ (1333FSB)
MSI P45 Platinum Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX (2x2GB)

thanks againmy computer KEEPS on restarting after i use an application. is this because of some virus?? also, after it has rebooted, my keyboard won't function for like 30 minutes.Max under a PRIME load for that CPU should be no higher than 69C...
You are frying that CPU.
Open the case and do some housekeeping...
Consider adding another case fan...
And you may want to remove the CPU and re-apply thermal paste...

Full instructions...PS...my benchtest machine that has the same chip runs at 39C under full test load....just to GIVE you an idea on how hot yours is.thanks patio,

i have purchased myself a new big *censored* fan and will be re applying the thermal paste too
that should do it... i hope.
thanks for all your help, very much appreciatedNo problem...

Best of Luck.that did it alright. STRESS tested for a while and core temps
were quite low compared to yesterday.

new fan and new thermal paste =

problem solved!

thanks againExcellent !

We love success stories here...Try to reformat your OS. I think that would help. You can obviously ignore the above post.
