Solve : Computer won't boot!?

Answer»

I was using my computer fine last night and everything was going as normal.

I was using this program CALLED winhiip and it was copying an iso to another hard drive that I plugged in. I had to unplug the wires from the cd drive to plug them into the hard drive. I have done this many times before and I have had no problems.

Last night an iso was copying and I was was tired of waiting so I just UNPLUGGED the hard drive when it was on then I turned the computer off. I tried to start it up this morning. I get the windows XP screen, but then it goes to a black screen. All it has is a blinking WHITE underscore (ex. _) Almost like a command prompt. I've tried pressing f8 because people tell me that puts it in safe mode but all that does is makes it beep at me. Every time I press a KEY it beeps.

Could someone please tell me how to fix this. I can work on the inside of it if you walk me though it please be very detailed with your posts so I can fix it.

Boot to the XP CD and choose the first repair option - that will take you to the Recovery Console. Once there run chkdsk /r. Let it finish and then reboot. Did that help? If not, we'll try something else.okay I'll try that when I get home from work. Thanks I'll post when I try it. But everyone else please post more suggestions because if that doesn't work then I'll have a plan B or C and so on.I can't find my XP cd anywhere and I KNOW I own one.....If u find ur Win XP installation CD, u can also try to repair your installation. Only issue is that some programs might tell that they aren't registered (i had that with AVG and Alcohol 120, others worked fine).

when u start the installation, press enter to set up windows and accept the license terms. afterwards, the setup will search for previous versions of windows (your XP should be enlisted). when it shows it to you, just press "r" and the repair process will start. looks same like the normal windows installation, but u won't lose any files. hope this helps. If you can't find your xp cd you can download a recovery console .iso from the link below, burn it to cd, boot to it, and then run chkdsk /r http://forums.pcpitstop.com/index.php?showtopic=150212
