Solve : Computer won't boot.?

Answer»

So my friend's computer won't boot properly.
When we start it, it says (translated from danish)

"windows was unable to start because this file is damaged or has been removed:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows installation using the installation program cd-rom. choose "r" in the first screen picture to repair."

when i insert the windows xp cd-rom and tells it to boot from the cd-rom, it responds with

"Boot from CD: ...

CDBOOT: Couldn't find NTLDR."

and then it redirects me to the first problem.

i asked my brother for help, and he told me to try to boot from a LINUX cd. When i did that, it recognized the cd as a linux cd and told me its info.

but it just said " cannot boot from this cd. please try a BIOS update".

so what should i do?
You need a real XP CD.Quote from: patio on October 29, 2008, 12:45:26 PM

Sorry to hear that, but the disc with the operating system is really the most important tool to have on hand whey you're attempting to repair issues with the operating system. so i am supposed to like plug the disk into another pc and reformat it?By disc I meant CD/DVD - the installation media. You can USE it to perform repair and troubleshooting procedures to the MALFUNCTIONING operating system.but dude, i already did it with 2 different known working CDs. so that is not the problem.Have you tried swapping the CD drive with a known working drive?well no, but i am quite sure the cd drive is working, because it was ABLE to RECOGNIZE the linux cd i inserted - plus i had installed a game through it a couple of days earlier.
