Solve : computer won't recognize external DVD driver? |
|
Answer» I purchased a DVD-Rom that said it will work with Windows XP2000 which I have but my computer only has a CD-Rom so I bought an external DVD DRIVER. My computer won't recognize this. On the HP DVD driver box it said that I have to have SP4. The GUYS at Best Buy where I purchased the DVD driver said I could download SP4 from Microsoft's website. I TRIED this and it said the XP only goes up to SP3. I don't know what else to do!There is no such thing as XP2000. You either have Windows XP or Windows 2000. Which is it?I'm sorry. I have Windows XP.Then SP3 is the last service pack.Yes I know I have the latest service package. But why won't my computer recognize this DVD writer? I click on the D drive and there is nothing there. No idea - can't see it from here. Is it hooked up correctly? Is it a usb drive? If so, is it usb 1 or 2? If usb 2, does your system support usb 2?I am using a USB 2.0 port.Did this drive come with an installation CD ? ?Yes it did. I have come to the conclusion that I don't have the correct software for this. I contacted HP Support and they didn't even recognize this model of DVD writer. They were of no help!!!! It's going back to Best Buy tomorrow. Can anyone recommend a DVD writer for Windows XP?You really shouldn't have a problem with any major brand, but I'm a big fan of LaCie products http://www.lacie.com/us/products/range.htm?id=10014 |
