Solve : computer(xp) won't boot in xp CD?

Answer»

I've got a windows XP pro CD and I want to install it on my old computer. The problem is that my computer won't boot from the CD. I already changed the order of boot in BIOS and I know Cd's COME first because I tested it with another CD. I also know the CD itself works, because I tried it on my other computer. So I don't know what the problem is.

The computer used to RUN on windows 98, but then some guy (I don't know who and I won't be able to contact him) put XP on it, but it's in French and not a genuine version. Basically I just want to reset the whole computer in Dutch XP. Anyways the processor is a Intel Celeron 601 MHz, with 256 MB RAM, 14.3 GB hard drive. I'm not sure what kind of other specs you need, so just ask and I'll try to find the info. There are 4 possible reasons a system won't boot to a cd / dvd:

1) The disc is bad or not bootable
2) The drive is dead
3) The OPTICAL drive is not the first device in the bios boot order
4) You need a new battery on the moboLet me add one more item to the list..
Sometimes a genuine XP CD will not boot because it is worn. It has tiny scratches that prevents boot up. It is possible to correct this.
Using a better computer, try to make a good COPY of the install CD. For some reason the copy software is able to correct read errors and write a perfect CD.
