When I put a BLANK dvd in the external and click BURN, it opens up my internal cd drive on my tower and tells me to put a disc in. I want my comp to RECOGNIZE my external drive as the burner not the one in the tower. And you click burn WHERE? Come one, be clear and explicit. What burning app are you using ? ?
All you need to do is point it to the external drive via My Computer.

If using Windows built in burning this may be more complicated...Total MEDIA extreme, the program came with the external drive. Basically I just want to use my external as my cd/dvd drive. My internal does not have a dvd burner just a cd burner thats why I bought a external drive. As for burn where on the total media software.Personally just by glanceing this topic is all too over the place though. Is it a cd drive or a harddrive your dealing with?Ignore the above post. Did you do as patio suggested and point the software to the new drive?Never mind I just SET my external dvd drive to E: and it works fine thanks for the help any way.
