Solve : Continuosly getting corrupt files?

Answer»

I just bought a Syntax Mobo.  I've gotten it up and running with Windows 2000 Pro but after a bit the PC will just reboot with no errors or anything.  When back in Windows I'll GET the Blue Screen and recently I got a ***STOP PFN_LIST_(something) is corrupt.  Sometimes I'll get a popup that c: is corrupt.  Norton System Works doesn't find any VIRUS', SpySweeper found 8 items but quarantined them.  I'm still have this problems.  Could the CMOS be causing the corruptions?  I'm thinking of flashing the BIOS but not real confident that this would fix the problem.  I've even swapped out the 80 GIG HDD for a 40 gig HDD that was WORKING in another PC.  If it is some unfound virus that is on the machine could it be in the BIOS??  Is there a way to start from scratch again?  Also, is there anyone who could point me in a good direction to figure out the proper CMOS settings that should be set up.  I've got the manual and thought I followed those settings.  Any advice anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.  Have you loaded the BIOS/setup default values?

Have you formatted the HDD's properly before installing Windows 2000?

I left the windows 2000 loader do the format of the drive.  Yes, I did load the default values for the Mobo also.  I think the option Failsafe settings or something like that. How to fix a general protection fault
