Solve : Converting to .PDF files?

Answer»

I am creating a newsletter for my organization with lots of photos, text boxes, links, etc., which make it HUGE. (~70MB) We intend to email to our members but this is obviously not practical. Will converting this newsletter to .PDF make it small enough to email widely?Quote

What format do you USE? Word file (.doc or .docx)?http://www.dopdf.com/download.phpI am using .doc format and including many inserts - primarily jpeg.I don't think going to pdf files will help you much.
You could optimise the pics to cut down the SIZE.

Another option would be to upload the complete newsletter to the internet then just email the link to your members.yeah, make your own webpage and just have people visit it to get all the information Thanks to everyone who responded! I've discussed the internet upload idea with our Board and they liked it. So that's what we are going to do. Appreciate your help.Word doesn't optimize the size of the photos you put in your word document. Converting to PDF never down-sizes the ACTUAL file size. The only way around, if you still want to email it primarily, is to resize the images and reduce their QUALITY. You can use any software for that purpose; CorelPaint is a REALLY good one. However you can also use free softwares like Irfanview. If after resizing you put in the images, you'd then dramatically reduce the size of your newsletter.

Alternatively, you already have the other option of putting it on a website. You certainly can have an official website for your organization where the news is on the mainpage. And the news stuff would effectively be your newsletter Quote from: Domenech on September 07, 2009, 10:40:40 AM

You're assuming he has many images in his newsletter that can be substantially downsized in file size. He hasn't responded to that point or stated much detail about the number of photos or the size of the image files. You're quite likely right but we don't know for sure without more details from the OP.

If that newsletter is going to be a recurring publication, a thorough discussion of optimizing images for the web would, indeed, be worthwhile. 70MB is large even for a single PDF document on the web.
