Solve : Corrupted Zipped File.?

Answer»

I wanted to format my computer, so I backed up all my important data on DVDs. My most important folder was about 5Gb large, so I zipped the file in order for it to fit on DVD. But now that I have formateed my computer, I cannot open the file. It is telling me that the file is corrupted. Its gona send me mad!!
What can be the problem? Is it because before I used Windows XP SP2 and now I am using SP1 ? cannot think of any other REASON

Thanks BEFOREHAND for any suggestions.First, I would install SP2.

Second, I would try to unzip the file using a PROGRAM called 7-Zip.
http://www.7-zip.org/Zip files do sometimes GET corrupted, usually during copying, burning or downloading. Sometimes (not always!) they can be repaired using software.

You could try this program

or look here

There are plenty of other reasons. A bad burn, the disk got damaged or is poor quality, the Zip program had an error while it was CREATING the zip, your DVD drive cannot read the disk, lots of possible reasons. I don't think the change of service pack level is the likeliest cause, or even likely at all.

You could try copying the zip archive over to your hard drive and trying to unzip it from there. If it fails to copy then you know it might be the disk or the drive. You could try the disk on another computer. You do not say if you created just one big zip file (what size?) or if you used split settings to break the zip archive up into parts. Sometimes a big zip file can get corrupted.

You were foolish not to check that the zip file was a good one, and that the burn was good, and that you could get the data back from it before you destroyed the original data.
