the cursor on my dell laptop is not functioning when the laptop is turned on.im on holiday at the moment and don't have access to any other type of help so would really appreciate any help possible. Thank you.What does that mean, the cursor doesn't function? Do you mean the touchpad doesn't work, a mouse doesn't work, a program is acting up, the system is frozen, the cursor doesn't sing on key - what is the exact problem?its the touchpad on a dell laptop. when the laptop is started up and the touchpad is pressed,nothing happens. it just happened last night for the first time. the laptop had been working okay until last night.If you connect a mouse does everything work okay?i havent been able to attach a mouse because i am currently on vacation and DONT have access to one at the moment. that is why im eagerly searching a solution because iv been using the laptop to keep in touch with people.thats why i dont know if there is anything i can do right now to fix itPress CTRL - ALT - DEL. Does Task MANAGER come up? Does your keyboard have a "Windows" key? If so, press it. Does the Start MENU come up? In EITHER CASE, can you maneuver with the cursor keys and or the ALT key?hit the windows key
use arrow keys to get to control panel
enter

1)for classic control panel
use arrow keys to get to device manager
hit enter

2) for new panel
hit tab till you get to hardware and sound
enter
hit tab till you get to device manager
enter

Once in device manager
hit tab
use arrow keys to navigate to mice and other pointing devices
hit right on your arrow keys
find your touchpad
hit enter
hit tab 3 times
use your arrow keys to get to driver
hit tab twice
hit update driver.
