Answer» My brother's pc, running XP is missing its D Drive. We determined the problem to be related to this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/285910. Roxio was messing things up, disabling the D drive. So I found a program which eliminated roxio off of the computer, figuring that without it, the d drives would not be blocked. But the D drives have not come back.
What I wanted to do was reformat the computer, but without the D drive I cannot boot off of anything. Please help, I've run out of ideas. Are you saying that there is no d drive or you just cant see it? Have you tried booting from the d drive? Have you tried it in MS dos command prompt to see if the computer can read from it? What about adding new hardware? Have you gone into SYSTEM to see if it is there? Is your cd drive detected in the bios? Have you checked to make sure everything is plugged in where it is supposed to be(i.e. the power CABLE and the ribbon are fully CONNECTED to your cd drive, and the ribbon also fully connected to the motherboard)?
8-)fffreakThe below site if you scroll down has a fix for missing Cd-rom drive. You download the program called 'Download Guided Help' it is 123KB.It does a auto fix for you, just follow the instructions.

I've tried that fix from Microsoft, didn't work. The D drive is missing from everywhere - i cant boot off of it, it is not in the DEVICE manager, etc, etc. I have no idea how to fix this one.Is it seen in the BIOS? Let's start there.its listed as ATAPI cd rom in the bios...if that is indeed the d drive. i should also mention the e drive (burner) is also out.does that mean that ALL of your optical drives are non-functional?
