Solve : Daughter at school, computer wont start?

Answer»

shes 100s of miles away and frustrated

1 year OLD Toshiba satellite......was running and she left the room, when she came back it was off ( thought battery died ) Plugged it in and tried to restart and got the warning about it not being shut down correctly. Hit enter and it shut off.........tried to restart it and she said it only runs a second and shuts down.

She went to bed for the night so any help I can give her in the morning would be great, thanks !1:: maybe it overheated and it will be fine after alittle while
2:: maybe somone messed with it
if its #1 then get a cooling bad
tell to run some process intensive programs
and if it shuts off you know its heat
i am sorry if this is unhelpful or you cant understand my badd english

I'll probly be no help but:
Are you sure the adapter that plugs into the wall is actually supplying current to the machine?
Is there an indicator light on the adapter and is it coming on when plugged in?
Are you sure she has it plugged into an outlet that is energized?
No trpped breakers in the breaker box in the house?
It sounds to me like a POSSIBLE dead battery due to not being charged but it certainly could be something else.
Good luck.

Take the battery out and see if laptop runs off AC power (through the AC/DC adapter of course). This will eliminate the "battery" as the source of the problem. Shes still sleeping Im sure so I dont know if its working this morning or not. She says that the A/C indicator was lit so it should be charging. I emailed her and said to try to start it without the battery in it and see if that works.

I ASKED if someone could of messed with it and she said no. Her room mate was at work. You guys know kids ? Could she have dropped it and hurt it that WAY and is just not telling ?? Man, I hate being so far away from her let alone with her having problems there. Thanks, Ill keep you posted. She tried to fire it up at lunch break and it asked ...."launch startup repair? (recommended) she hit enter and it shut down.

I dont know if she had to highlight anything or just hit enter

like I said Im 100s of miles away and she is an impatient college student who cant chat online sounds like its ether a eletrical problem or a head problem
try blowing an extra desk fan on it see if it still does it
