Solve : Defrag Error on XP.? |
|
Answer» HELLO I am working on my Fiance's Grandfathers computer.I am trying to run a Defrag of the hard drive but it GIVES me the error MMC cannot open the file C:\PROFRA~1\DISKEE~2\DISKEE~1.MSC. This may be because file does not exist,is not an MMC console,Or was created by a later version of MMC.This may also be because you do not have sufficient access rights to the file. Any Ideas on what I should do?WELCOME to the CH forums. Please read this.. Need to know if MMC is being used, are you attempting to defrag using Diskeeper from the Admin ACCOUNT or from a User account with Admin privileges. It sounds as if DisKeeper is installed on that machine which is a third party defrag program... First see if it shows up in the Start Menu...if so try it from there. If it doesn't then they may have tried it and uninstalled it. If so DLoad and install DisKeeper Lite which is the Free version...re-boot and it should then run properly. The other thing to try is after a fresh re-boot of the system go to Start/Run and type in services.msc and hit ENTER...locate the DisKeeper service; right clik it and select Start. It may be disabled by default. The 3rd thing it may be is the drive has errors. Again go to Start/Run and type in chkdsk /r and hit Enter...let it run to completion and re-boot. Then Defrag should run properly... Good Luck and let us know... |
