Answer» I had a Dual Monitor set up with 1 dell Lcd widescreen monitor and 1 crt 17in monitor. I Installed a new graphics card on my computer and lost my Dell monitor, it wont display anyting. When I plug the dell monitor into my computer my computer reckognizes the monitor and shows up in the system(my crt monitor still works) I set the resolution to native for the monitor and still shows nothing. I have the latest drivers installed for the dell monitor and still displays nothing?
Now heres the strange test i've ran that do something. When i start in safe mode, and switch monitor cables from the crt to the dell the dell monitor works, if i try to save settings and shutdown the dell monitor after it shutsdown doesn't work anymore and windows starts as normal.
The other strange test if i swap monitor cables the dell will turn on briefly but then shut off......
I've tried everything, i remember having TROUBLE setting up my dual monitors but for some reason my dell monitor just won't come out of stand by.
PLEASE I BEG OF YOU!!! help me, what can i do to make this THING work?? My thoughts are delete all monitors and then try to just get the dell to work, then try and do dual monitors??? The ony problem is i deleted both monitors in the device manager, shut down, connect dell monitor only restart, and it displays nothing doesn't even come out of stand by mode???
You tell me what to do i'll try and tell you what happensPower off your computer completely. Plug in your CRT monitor. Power ON the computer, Tap F8 key and enter Advanced options. Select "last known good configuration" and see if it will display again. If that works shuts down and plug in your second monitor, restart, go and back into Device Manager to reinstall your Video Drivers, then follow directions here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307873
If "last known good configuration" will not let you back into your system, Start Over, tap F8 key on booting, select VGA mode instead of "last know good config" You will then enter windows using a basic video driver...Next, if you can get to the desktop, go back into Device Manager and reinstall your video drivers, then follow the instructions in the link........good luck
OK so i have rolled back to a previous date but it was Directly after i installed the video card software, and i still can't get the monitor to come out of standby....... Is there anyway i can change the driver for the dell monitor and use the driver that it uses in safemode..... in safemode the monitor seems witch won't work unless i use the crt monitor and then switch the cable to the dell monitor then it will work??Could you please specify the make and model of the computer and the type of graphics card that you recently added, along with the old graphics card if one existed.
I have an AMD atholon 64 2.2ghz, asus motherboard, Xp Sp2, My old graphix card was a litefast Nvidia 128mb PCI card, I replaced it With an His Radeon hd3650 AGP 512mb card.
So here is whats up, on my old graphix card everything worked, when i would start my computer both monitors would turn on and a clone would show on both monitors untill it gets to windows. And then would work as it should. I recently updated the driver for the litefast card, to run google skecthup but then my dell monitor would not work after I started my computer up, no matter what i tried i could not get the dell monitor to work, it would work but would not be in RIGHT resolution......So i did a system RESTORE and the dell monitor worked properly again.
The problem i believe is with the driver for the dell monitor and windows. Something in there is not right. I need to know if there is some way to reset this.
I was able to have dual monitor functionality using my friends monitor, then if i were to switch the cable between his monitor and my dell the dell would turn on (my friends monitor is an hp lcd 17) Once the dell turned on i could adjust resolution move everything over and it would work fine but if i tried to restart it would not turn on when i started the computer only the crt would turn on, but when i got to windows it was acting as if both monitors were working.
I also plugged the dell monitor into my girlfriends LAPTOP and it worked, although her laptop is vista and there is no driver made by dell for vista, It would work but the color was not right, but the resolution was correct and in the monitors native resolution.
So as you can see there seems to some error displaying on the dell, also my dell monitor has a dvi and d-sub port, I currently have the d-sub connected to a converter that converts it to dvi then into the graphix card(came with it, also has been tested for functionality and works)......is there a cable that goes dvi-dvi, would that potential solve the problem???.... I still think its something to do with the way windows is trying to display things on the dell monitor.
ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!Go into CMOS and try setting your new card as primary....There might not be a specific setting for that, but you might try disabling the ONBOARD graphics card and then rebooting, to see where that gets you. I should have mentioned I removed the pci card..... Luckly i did get it to work, My dell monitor has 4 inputs a DVI, D-sub, S-video, component.... I Had the monitor connected D-sub to dvi converter into my graphix card, now i have a DVI cable from the monitor to the computer and that work..... I will say something for anyone who might be reading this. I WILL NEVER, I REPEAT NEVER!!!!!!!! purchase any dell product again, Customer support is *censored* unless you own a dell pc, They never update there driver(This monitor will never perform right in Vista because Dell has not made a driver and won't, just like the Dell DJ that i purchased 6mo before I bought a vista laptop that it will never connect to) The problem i believe was with the driver that was installed somewhere on my computer and using the Dvi cable made it use a different driver for the monitor. Also did i mention that before i struggled getting it to work with the D-sub to D-sub on the old graphix card, so it might also just be the driver that the monitor uses on D-sub thats the problem. Oh well thnx for the helpno prob. bob
