Solve : desk boot failure?

1.	Solve : desk boot failure?
Answer» Im RUNNING windows xp pro, I just formatted my computer & for some reason it will only boot up by using the xp cd. I was woundering if anyone may have an anwser? When I start my computer I get a black screen that SAYS desk boot FAILURE, no luck getting windows to start unless I reset using xp desk then it works fine untill I RESTART or shut down again. What happens EXACTLY if the CD is not in there?
