Solve : desktop problem?

Answer»

a few days ago i was on my desktop, the screen turned white and froze up so i restarted it by pushing the power button when i tried to turn it back on you could hear the normall booting up noises for about 3 seconds then nothing. now i cant even to get it to start its basically a doorstop ATM, just wondering if its something fixable or if its trash and i should start saving like mad. oh no new software, i keep it protected with avg spybot and a few basic things, mainly for watching movies and chatting, yahoo wiki other things nothing major the desktop is kind of old though i run WINDOWS xp home sp3 i think dell dimension 4550Can you see anything at all, when you turn on the computer, or is it comletely blank? When you turn it on, TAP the f8 key and when you come to the menu, SELECT "LAST known good configuration"cant turn it on its litterly dead, friend said i blew the power source maybehave you tried plugging it into another wall outlet?yea tryed diffrent surge protecters tohave you opened it up to VERIFY that the power supply is correctly fastened to the board, and other cable/wires?yea pushed down on them nothing seems loose
This is probably a long shot, but ask your friend if you can borrow his power supply temporarily, out of his computer. Make sure it is equal or greater wattage.

If you can get your computer to start up, then you'll know that you simply need to order a power supply...If it doesn't start up, then your problem is likely related to the mother board, in which you will need a new one.
If the the other power supply doesn't work, check your motherboard for burst or leaking capacitors.

Make sure you are grounded before touching any internal components. Static electricity can fry your motherboard!hmm happen to know a place to buy a real cheap computer? just need something to watch movies on and im and word for classesQuote from: JJ 3000 on May 21, 2009, 01:42:16 AM
