My computer broke a long time ago, we had to unplug it because we were moving it, when we plugged it back in the computer just makes 2 beeps then come up with a black screen saying:

"windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
system32\drivers\pci.sys

You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup CD-ROM
select 'r' at the first screen to start repair"

I don't have the original windows CD or any Driver cd's

I've had a look on ebay and seen various CD's which say that they can fix problems. Can someone please point out a CD that will fix my problem.

You don't have to have the original CD......you can beg / borrow from friend or family to get around the CD problem (you use your own OEM serial number).....as long as the have the same VERSION as your (XP Home or Pro, which ever you have)

CheersI don't have anyone to borrow it off, and i don't know what my serial number is. Is there a disk i can buy that will sort out the problem. There were ones on ebay going for £3 saying they could fix problems. Is there a disc i can buy that can fix my problems??basically will these discs do the trick?

and if these are the wrong thing could someone please direct me or tell me of a disc that will workI would be leery of all of those as they don't mention ONE program that is contained on the CD's....
I'd also be leery of a claim that you can install any ver. of Windows......what about liscensing issues ? ?
Do you really want an illegal install of XP on your system ? ?

If i wanted vista on this computer would it be possible to buy a vista disc, INSERT it and then put vista on this computer?Vista Requirements

This article is alot more realistic than MS's published specs on what can run Vista.

As FAR as the CD you LINKED to it looks alot more promising than the others.
