Answer»

I have an ext. hard drive that the computer wno longer recognizes. The computer says the device is WORKING as well as the usb ports. I've tried rebooting but nothing. Any ideas out there?
ThanksWhen you go to the my computer Icon, right click, choose, manage, double clicl on ,disk management, does it appear there?Hi there,
What shows is the removable storage but the message is that there items in this VIEW.?Sorry, I meant NO items to viewRight click the drive in Disk Management and select Properties...does it say RAW ? ?No it doesn't OK i'll bite...what DOES it say under Properties ? ?It says that the device is working properly! Then you aren't doing it properly...it should SHOW more info than that...
Right Click My Computer...
Click Manage...
In the left pane click Disk Management...
This window will show all drives on the machine...
FIND the external and right click it and select Properties...

Report back with your findings...It shows volume c and the status is healthy. I don't SEE anything external. (I am  a real novice at this...sorryIt only says that vol c is healthy. Nothing about ext. deviceHow many drives are showing up ? ?
C: would be your internal hard drive that has Windows installed on it...

It may be listed with the brand name I.E. Western Digital, Seagate etc....There are 2 drives...C and my dvd burnerThen the external drive is not being recognised...
Can you try it on another machine ? ?I don't have another computer so maybe I should try the ext. on some one elses and see if it is recognized?
