Solve : Device2570(ProcesTo I/O Controller ResourceConflic?

Answer»

Hello,

My configuration: P4 (2.66 GHz/512MB/533 MHz) with the i865PE and ICH5R chipsets (installed with Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility 6.3.0.1007); Win98se (fully updated).

The automatic setting option was used throughout hardware installation.

The only disturbing factor is the following resource conflict, reported from the very beginning by Device Manager:
"Intel(R) 82865G/PE/P/GV/82848P Processor to I/O Controller - 2570"
'This device CAUSES resource conflict (Code 15)'  -  'this memory range is used by Intel 82801 PCI Bridge - 244E'.

Both devices - '2570' and '2571' have been installed with the aid of the same INF file (865.inf), I suppose and one of them doesn't cause conflicts with the PCI Bridge 244E and the other does.

My questions are:
- Can the '2570' device function correctly without having memory range assigned, or assigned improperly?
- Does '2570' really need memory assigned?

Thanks,
AndrewB
What computer or motherboard make/model? What operating system? Where did you get these .inf files?Motherboard: Asus P4P800 Deluxe
The rest of the requested info is already in the first 2 lines of my original post:
Win98se & Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility 6.3.0.1007.

Please note that this problem can be seen as more GENERAL (I mean Windows version- and Intel P4- independent). So you could answer the following question:
Does Intel P4 to I/O controller need memory assignment at all?
You need the correct motherboard chipset drivers to assign this. You still didn't say where you got what you are using but this is all that is listed on the ASUS site for that board. If you got them from Intel or some other site you may want to check these out:

Does the board work correctly, aside from the issue shown in Device Manager? Some boards never do get this resolved but they function normally. Quote

assuming this thing is accurate, you have the equvilant of 924 us dollars, if you have a full 500 euros to spend, which, should be enough to make a great rig, you can build a 939 64 bit system for about 500 bucks, with everything

Your "multitasking" is out of hand Dead_reckon. You are responding to an issue in another section.

as i said, it is early, and i only got about 6 or 7 hours of sleep last night, but i DID realize that i was in the wrong tab about the time i hit alt s... i think i will fetch more coffee now, PREVENT future errors...Generally, 8xx.inf files are generated by Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility. My 865.inf file was generated by the last version of this utility for Win98se, i.e. 6.3.0.1007, which I downloaded directly from Intel.
The board chipset driver from Asus also contains the original installation utility of Intel, but one version earlier, as this motherboard is no longer produced. Asus encourages, of course, upgrading to the newest one. The problem is definitely not there and I'm familiar with Asus Support section.

My board has no problems with this conflict!

This was so striking to me that I decided to ask about it at several computer shops, but without success. Therefore I checked Device Manager info about this device on several different computers at these shops - with different brand motherboards and various Intel chipsets. There was striking consistency of the info concerning Processor to I/O Controller, namely they didn't assign any memory for the device. Therefore, I generalized my question a bit, assuming that it's quiet likely that such an assignment isn't necessary at all for correct functioning of this device, but understand that this question isn't so trivial.
