Answer» I just BOUGHT a computer yesterday from MDG Computers loaded with Windows Vista Home Premium. This is a summary of my problem: 1. Installed DOOM 3, could not read file on CD (the CD was scratched, so I try #2) 2. Download and INSTALL Doom 3 trial. Comes up with a File I/O error. 2. Installed Age of Empires, Error 1335 comes up saying Data1.cab is corrupted. (CD again? So I try #3) 3. Installed Age of Empires Trial version off the Internet. Same error. 4. Windows Update cannot process two downloaded updates (saying files are corrupt). 5. I downloaded Counterstrike off Steam, that did work fine. 6. I CAME home tonight to find my computer shut off (left it on). Upon restart, it said a fatal error caused it to turn off. It then would not load MSN Live Messenger, crashing every time I opened it. It then suddenly began to work. 7. Got a blue screen tonight while browsing the Internet, but it restarted before I could read what the error was. 8. I ran Western Digital's hard drive diagnostic program, did not find any HD problems. 9. I ran Windows Memory Diagnostics from a Boot CD, did not find any problems. 10. Any suggestions? Is it my computer causing the trouble, or is it Windows Vista, or is it both???
Computer specs: Pentium D 2.8 GHZ, 1 GB Kingston RAM, 250 GB Western Digital SATA HDD, running on wireless network card, Windows Vista, etc.
Probably Vista. Try looking for Vista compatible patches for Doom 3. And if that produces no joy joy i would be CONTACTING MDG....
p.s. Don't let them tell you Vista doesn't run games. Something is amiss.Patch 1.5 was recently released for Doom 3, making it work with Vista. Contact MDG, if it's brand new it shouldn't be having problems. Some can be put down to incompatibility, others seem to point to a deeper problem.
