Solve : Dimension 8100 pc Need help - won't continue loading up?

Answer»

I would appreciate any advice or suggestions I can get on my PC. It is a Dell 8100 Dimension, about 10 years old, yes I know, a dinosaur, but I am trying to get it to work for my grandson who is now loving with me and doing online schooling. I bough a new sound card for it 'cuz a friend saw the last one that was rusted and said it will never work. My son loaned me a MONITOR and power chord and chord from the monitor to the back of the tower. I have a printer for it and a Logi tech keyboard and a mouse that works. ha  Anyway, When I turn it on, it SOUNDS like it is loading ok and the Dell logo comes on the screen. Then the logo goes away and an error message that says "a disc read error occurred" without the quotes. I am at a loss of what to do and ready to keep hitting the esc button or the F1. lol  Please help anyone.  Thank you so very much.    Do you have the recovery disks that shipped with your computer?

I would really suggest installing Windows (or another operating system) from scratch, though, better to start anew than to waste time uninstalling unnecessary programs and fixing the errors that may have accumulated...You could also running a diagnostic on the harddrive.

Run HARD drive diagnostics: tacktech.com
Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the PROGRAM, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: imgburn to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable.
For Toshiba hard drives, see here:

Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here
