Solve : Disaster- should have left well alone?

Answer»

My Samsung NC10 Netbook had been working OK since I bought it in Jan 09 but I hadn't used it much. Today I thought I had better use the Samsung recovery program that backs up the C drive onto D which was set up on the default 50/50 partition from new.

The program did a full back up of the 17GB C drive and then re booted. I noticed that it was running very slow and also that the D partition was empty and a widow came up asking me if I wanted to format it. I shut it down in the normal way and started it again and now it wont boot up.
I just get the black boot up options screen with a horizontal segment progress bar at the bottom which gradually moves across and then some text flashes on the screen and then goes back to the boot options screen. Sometimes I get the windows logo with the blue progress bar but after a few minutes it goes back to the boot options. I have tried booting in normal, last good config and safe mode. Once I got a screen saying auto check prog not found then crashed back again. I have the XP disc that came with it but of COURSE there is no CD Drive. Can anybody help please Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). Disable the automatic restart on system failure so system will STOP at BSOD. Post back with the "exact" error message text/numbers and any module name it fingers as probable culprit.

Use the F8 function key during system startup to access the Windows Advanced Options menu. Tap the F8 key once or twice per second as you startup the computer (or immediately after POST completes and screen flashes black prior to displaying Windows XP logo with its processing bar display).

When the Windows Advanced Options menu comes up, select "Disable automatic restart on system failure".
Thanks for your reply. I disabled the auto restart on systems failure and on the blue screen it says that a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. Then it goes on to check for viruses, REMOVE any hard drives, check hard drives to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard dive corruption and then restart. Under that there is technical info
as follows

*** STOP: 0X0000007B(0XF7A2E524, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)

1. Can you provide a "complete" model number? For example:
o NC10-11GP
o NC10-12PWBK
o NC10-14GB
o NC10-14GBK
o NC10-14GW

2. Reference:
STOP 0x0000007B Error Resolution

Its NP-NC10KA03UK How do I get out of this blue screen ? Got to go out now will check back this evening in about 6 hours. Many thanks Do you think I should try F4 Samsung recovery SOLUTION In the book it says, "There is a quick restore mode and then basic restore which it says restores the major windows files only while maintaining the user config and data on the C drive." Then if that doesn't work it says run complete restore which deletes the entire C drive and restores the content of the C drive. Using the Restore option will wipe out all your data and Programs and basically take the machine back to Day One status...
You decide.Doesn't the "basic restore" return it to a point where I tried to make the back upI've never used the Samsung utility so i can't say what exactly it does...i'd back up all my important data just in CASE.I ended up after talking to Samsung using the Recovery Solution III. I tried doing a basic restore which didn't work and then doing a complete restore which took me back to day one but after the HDD had been partitioned 50/50. I am now installing the programs I want to bring it back to where it crashed and then I intend to make a compete backup onto an external HDD. My question is on my D partition there are recovery solution files totaling 14.3 GB User1.w01,w02,w03,wcI,woo. Can you tell me what these are and can I safely delete them bearing in mind the above. Those are the Recovery files that you just used to rescue the netbook...
Check the Owners Manual on how to back these up to a DVD so you have them...

Actually they are better left there since you do not have a CD drive in that machine...
Even using an external it would have to be ABLE to boot to the external for you to do a Restore anytime down the road. This is at best difficult but not impossible.

At any rate check with Samsung before getting rid of them...OK, many thank for everyones help on this.Welcome Aboard !I have Acronis True Image v 11 and a external HDD. I want to make a full back up of my C drive onto the external HDD. Not having a CD drive, do you know if I will be able to boot up my NC10 Samsung netbook with a USB flash drive bootable rescue to use Acronis in case either XP wont boot up or my internal HDD packs in. Check your Manual to see if the MBoard supports booting to an external USB device...not all of them do...
