Solve : disk cleanup crash? |
|
Answer» I've recently been unable to run Windows Disk Cleanup. The machine shuts off after about 1 minute. I've done an error check. The machine otherwise runs OK. Windows XP, Gateway laptop. Any ideas where to turn. LennyagThis can be caused by not enough free space...how much is on that drive ? ? 40 G drive with only 1.9 G FreeThat may well be the cause of the problem. Windows needs more breathing ROOM to even run TASKS such as Disk Cleanup. Can you move some files, at least TEMPORARILY, to a flash drive or burn them to a CD/DVD and remove them from your hard drive so that you can then run Disk Cleanup? If you can not do this, then you need to be thinking about getting a bigger hard drive. By the way, does your Recycle Bin have files in it? If so, emptying it might alleviate the immediate problem of not being able to run Disk Cleanup. The general rule of thumb for Windows is 15% Free Space... For a 40G drive that equals 6G... You shouldn't GO below that...or performance suffers. |
