What Disc?

If this is a Windows Disc, have you tried Booting from it?Hi and thankyou for reply. The pc won't run any disk.I had to replace modem and was attempting to put the disk in to install on pc,but discovered that no disk will run on screen.Do you think my disk drive is PROBLEM and may need to be replaced.I have Windows 98.Not too good on computers, beginner.Maybe we can help you with your CD Drive.

Does it not work with ANY discs?

Can you find out what the exact model of it is?It doesn't work with any disc.It is a Dell Opti Plex GX1.Old computer and just thought maybe could get it up and going,as you guys are very help-ful.I meant can you find out what model the CD Drive is.  Sorry, where would I find that info?Service Tag # is 07YF5,thanks for your patience. You will have to get to Device Manager.

I'm not exactly sure with Windows 98, but according to Google, here is how you get there:

RIGHT CLICK My Computer, go to Properties and hit the Device Manager Tab.

Can you see the CD ROM there? This is what I found. Is It one of these?
Disc drives
Display Drivers
floppy disc controller
Modem
Network adapters
Other devices
PCi Communication Device
Port(Com& Lpt)
SYSTEM Devices
Univerc Serial BUS controllersI would like for you to explain this statement "that no disk will run on screen". Are you waiting for it to autoplay? Have you tried opening My Computer and clicking on the disk drive?I had to change the modem disc, then placed the disc in my pc and waited for it to come up on monitor screen. It never would display on screen.I also tried  the other method you suggest and still nothing.Go to My Computer, right click on your disk drive, click on properties and tell us how Mb is on the disc. Right click again and click open and see what happens. Have you tried a regular audio disk to see if it would play?If you visit Dell's site and enter that Service Tag # it will tell you exactly what components are in that machine...
If that's the original CD Drive in there it has probably gone South by now.
They are fairly easy to replace. If you know someone who has done this before ask them to borrow a CD drive and show you how to install it...
This will tell you if it has failed or not.
If so get a new one. Dual layer DVD burners are about 40 bucks from newegg.com if you are in the States.
