Solve : Do i need to make slipstream disk??? |
|
Answer» Hey guys, I'm about to embark on my first build.......My one question is if i buy a new windows xp home disk does it include sata drivers yet..... or do i have to make a slipstream disk?? a new question on this.......to run the motherboard driver disk dont i have to have windows installed first? And how can i install windows first without the hard drive being recognized? Remember the message that says ""Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver"? Or maybe you never installed XP before. This page gives an outline, obviously the driver name will be different for each motherboard and driver. http://cruftbox.com/blog/archives/000867.html thanks guru....correct, i never did a new install of xp on a brand new system, only reinstalls........but this system will not have a floppy, although i guess i could pull one from another computer for the install??? but i wont let it dangle from the cable Quote from: king244 on March 27, 2009, 06:17:37 AM this system will not have a floppy That's when a slipstreamed disk becomes useful. Quote although i guess i could pull one from another computer for the install? PROVIDED that the motherboard (unlike my Shuttle) actually has a floppy controller chip and a header to connect the data cable to, and it is enabled in the BIOS, and you have an appropriate power connector / adapter. Or you can borrow a USB floppy drive. Again make sure it is enabled in the BIOS. Or you can simply remove the XP CD and insert the Driver CD after hitting the F6 prompt to install the SATA drivers... The install will continue and then prompt you again for the XP CD. I didn't KNOW you could do that (never needed to) but handy to know. i believe i do..... can you check these out and let me know..... http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10009910 http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0301968 http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=AK800&cpc=SCH providing having all the necessary equipment, which i think i do, my only question is when do i enable in bios...before installing xp i guess? i know what you're thinking, maybe this dude shouldnt be building his own system.....but what the *censored* you have to start somewhere right..... And i appreciate all the info Patio, what would be the correct sequence then? install equipment, load windows, when asked for drivers take out xp disk and insert motherboard disk? then when done reinsert xp?? or is there a different way..... heeeelllppppppppppppp |
