Solve : Dos program slowing down windows?

Answer»

I am running windows Xp home edition on a new AMD pc. I noticed whenever i run a DOS program, it slows down the performance of my system dramatically. For example, if at the same time im running Windows media player, when swtiching to the next song, there is a lag. Please tell me why? How do i rectify this problem? Will downgrading my windows to windows 98 help? Are you running your DOS programs THRU the command prompt in Accessories, or thru an emulator?Quote

my program seems to be running when i double click the icon. i just know that it runs on dos.

dudedoctors, I know this may SOUND like a crazy idea, but maybe you could tell us what that DOS program is?

(I quite like guessing games, but I have to be in the MOOD)
Yes, what program is it?

I WONDER, does XP really run DOS, or just run a DOS "shell" of its own...I think each version of Windows had gotten farther and farther away from running on MS-DOS...

It doesn't.
The only DOS left in XP is the emulator used to run 16 bit DOS applications. The cmd is a command line shell with a DOS like syntax written for XP.
The emulator isn't very good by the way. This is why projects like DOSBox have appeared to provide a BETTER DOS emulation.Yeah -- I noticed the current DOS emulator doesn't support a lot of the old DOS command options / switches from the good ol' days...
