Answer» If you try to download the slim and portable versions of ccleaner http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds does the slim version disappear and the zipped version get through? (I'm trying to figure out if you can download a zipped version of an exe or if it is deleted) I know my antivirus will block an exe in a zip file. This is unreal... I went to your link, DL'd the ccsetup305.zip. Never saw the DL Manager box, but Bit Zipper opened up, and there it was! Sort of... The path BZ gave me was C:\Users\Ginny\AppData\Local\Temp\ccsetup305.zip. Listed 49 files - 1 ccleaner & 1 ccleaner64, both .exe files, 1 Licence.txt, 1 Portable.dat, and the rest were all lang-****.dll files. Made a folder on my desktop (ccsetup). Tried to select, then drag & drop the files. Didn't work. Tried to Copy them from the BZ menu. That didn't work either. Went to the C:\U\G\A\L\Temp dir. No Folder or File starting with cc, none containing a 305, and nothing with a .zip extension, but they are showing on Bit Zipper. There is, however a new folder in the Temp called bzdragdrop with today's date, I assume bz put it there when I tried to drag and drop the files... So - where *are* the files? Or did they delete, but BZ is still showing them? Can't run the *.exe file from BZ - I tried. In FireFox go to Options>Applications>scroll down to Zip Archive and highlight it. You will see a drop down on the right of the listing, Select Always Ask. Now try downloading the CCleaner.zip again and choose to Save the File. See if you can save it to your usual download folder.
If you can save it, then try unzipping it to a folder and see if both ccleaner.exe files are in that folder.Changed to Always Ask in Firefox, did the DL, nothing on my desktop, as usual... BTW, I didn't lose interest over the weekend - just had a death in the family and a kitchen fire, both on Sat., that's why it TOOK me so long to get back to you... I read all the posts and most were over my head.
For many months now I never know if a file will download or not from my browser. The problem ranges from just not being able to download an image to not being able to download a document or an exe file. I used to only use the Chrome browser until this happened. Now If Chrome or Firefox won't download it I copy the link and open the other browser. Usually, I can download it from there. Sometimes not and then I try IE. I can't remember if IE has failed or not, but I hate IE and hope that isn't the only answer. Before I got Firefox I noticed that it often happened after I installed a Windows update. Then if I kept rebooting and/or shutting down- 66 sec. wait - restart it would 'sometimes' fix it. A few times I fixed it by running ccleaner w/ or w/o the registry cleaner.
I right click/ save image as and the window that looks just like File Explorer opens and I chose where I want to save it. When it doesn't work as soon as I click 'anywhere' on that window, I get the spinning blue circle and the window dims. I can either wait a long time or click on the red 'X' to close that window. Either way a smaller window opens in that one TELLING me that 'name of browser' is not responding and asking if I want to wait or close the program. Waiting for up to two hours has never worked. So now I always choose the close program option. Then I get yet another window telling me that Windows is searching for a solution. It has never found one so I always click cancel and then the browser closes. Then it still will not save an image (any format) for an undetermined period of time. I have went weeks unable to save an image only to have it suddenly start saving them again when I have done nothing to make any changes to anything.
I am attaching a screenshot of my system info from CONTROL Panel. I keep Windows and my Chrome and Firefox browsers updated to the latest versions. "Version 47.0.2526.73 m
Google Chrome is up to date.", Firefox is 42.0 and up to date. IE is IE11 version 11.0 and the usual overlong string or Microsoft numbers that can't be copied. Install updates automatically is checked on it.
I can't tell from the preview if the image is attached or not. It is running Win 8.1 Pro w/ Media Center (which I have never used) it's 64 bit with a QUAD core 3.4 CPUs, a GeForce 9I think) 760 Graphics card. The case and everything inside it was purchased separately and installed by the people from whom I bought it. It was supposed to be a close to state of the art gamers computer. I don't game, but wanted something fast and that might not turn to crap in 2-3 years (LOL). It came with the full Windows OS from windows, not some chopped up version like I always had before. A lot of good it did me!
