Solve : dropped from internet?

Answer»

I can be on a site such as moneysmart and look up a stock and the screen appears and I click on an item concerning the stock and it opens that up and then I click on certain of the topics and the internet connection goes away it does it on SEVERAL sites that I visit and has just inthe last 3 or 4 days started that I have restored and it does not fix the PROBLEM.  What could it be?  I have McAfee and I also have avast and they show nothing.  I have xp system.  Thanks for any help.Hello nantom.

Could you tell me what type of internet service you have? (Cable, DSL, Dial-Up, etc.)

Is your computer connected directly to your modem or do you connect through a router?

I have comcast cable.  And it stays on.  Like I was saying on smartmoney for instance, I look at the stock and then lets say I click the latest news it will go to news and then I go back and click on ratings and for some reason it will ALWAYS cut off on ratings but not on something else, and if I go on Scotttrade and click on the ticker  showing the up to date prices it will cut off there.  Some things work with no problems but the sites that have a problem it always cuts me off the internet on the same issues.OK. Since you have cable, which is always on, you have to explain better, what you mean by "cut off".Or post a link so we can test the site...    What I mean is that instead of going to the item I click on the firefox page that I am viewing it on goes away and I have to log on to the internet again.  That is as clear as I know how tosay it.How do you log on to internet with cable connection?   I maybe using the wrong term for that what I mean is the firefox page goes away and I have to click on my firefox icon and it opens back up again.Firefox closes?thanks anyway.??Firefox must have closed on him again...  Lets try again with this, I do have cable and when I want to go to the internet I click on my Firefox MOZILLA icon and the home page opens up sometimes and does right, and then I can go to other sites and click on an item to read and then the home page goes away for no apparent reason and I have to click again on the Firefox icon to open the page back up, and that has been occuring more and more each day for the last 3-5 days.  Now it is starting to close the homepage as soon as it opens.  I have tried restoring but that does no good, I have Avast and McAfee and they show nothing.  What could it be, a setting or ?  ThanksThere's your problem right there...you are running 2 Anti-Virus apps...
Pick ONE and dump the other.Sounds to me more like a browser issue. Try Internet Explorer or Firefox in safe mode. Can you explain what you mean by "goes away" (window becomes blank? Firefox closes?) and "log on to the internet again" (connect to your ISP using the username and password they gave you?). Also you shouldn't use more than one anti-virus program at the same time, I suggest getting rid of McAfee.
