|
Answer» Is there any way I can achieve dual booting at the same hdd which has 2 partitions?Thnx!Yes. Which OS's are you considering ? ? Quote Is there any way I can achieve dual booting at the same hdd which has 2 partitions?Thnx!I have my notebook running two OS Vista and XP Professional as dual boot works fine, on the one drive. It has been partitioned into equal parts That is 20 GB each. I have install Vista Home Premuin, would not use Home Basic. In fact would never install Home Basic on any computer, XP Home has more to offer than Home Basic (Vista).I had a bad experience trying to use both (even when each one resides in its own partition). When I TRIED to install vista I lost xp and vice versa. That's why I am sceptical! It shouldn't be a problem at all...Step by Step Guide There is also a neat little program called Vista BootPro as Vista does handle the boot process a bit differently. Good Luck and let us know.I told u guys!Look what happened! I had windows xp in one partition of my hdd and I decided to install vista in another partition of the same drive.Vista didn't gave me a 2nd option after installing them and I run EasyBCD to inform Windows Boot Manager that there is an xp operating system in drive d: (vista are in drive c:). Indeed I was presented with a second boot option but that 2nd option doesnt work.I get the message : Windows Boot Manager Windows Failed to start A recent hardware or software change MIGHT be the cause ...blah blah blah I'll post here the EasyBCD 'View Settings' Display Mode (detailed) : Windows Boot Manager -------------------- identifier {bootmgr} DEVICE partition=C: description Windows Boot Manager locale en-US inherit {globalsettings} default {current} displayorder {current} {300b322f-d8d4-11db-b85e-0016d345f6f8} toolsdisplayorder {memdiag} timeout 30 Windows Boot Loader ------------------- identifier {current} device partition=C: path \Windows\system32\winload.exe description Microsoft Windows Vista locale en-US inherit {bootloadersettings} osdevice partition=C: SYSTEMROOT \Windows resumeobject {b1a0260f-d911-11db-9360-9c421061684e} nx OptIn Windows Legacy OS Loader ------------------------ identifier {300b322f-d8d4-11db-b85e-0016d345f6f8} device partition=D: path \ntldr description Microsoft Windows Any ideas how to access my windows xp again?Thnx! Is there a reason for putting XP on D: and Vista on C: ? ? This may be where it is getting wonked. All Win flavors including Vista need to write certain files to the root of C: which is where the oldest version should reside. My testbench machine is set up this way ( plus Win2K ) and it had no problem at all recognising all 3 OS's... I'm given a choice at bootup towhich OS i want to run... |
