Solve : Dual Core - can I use one core for one application and the other for the rest??

Answer»

Hi, this is my second post. I have a Pentium D 2.66 Dual Core processor w 2 GB RAM running WINDOWS XP, and I am wondering if it is possible to "isolate" one core to process an audio application i use (that does not support dual core technology) and all of it's "threads" or "processes" or whatever they MAY be called, and use the other core to process Windows and all other apps?

My goal is to optimize my PC to make the best use of the two cores for this single audio application. The Program is called Pro Tools LE, and is version 6.4 (if that matters) and it is one of the last versions of Pro Tools that doesn't support dual core. So in this sense, I do not need my computer to "take advantage" of the dual core technology when I am not using Pro Tools LE. Does this make sense? In other words, if it is possible, I would be okay with windows and all others applications/processes besides pro tools LE running off of only one of the two cores.

I am a novice still when it comes to understanding computers and their abilities, so i apologize if this has been addressed or if this is considered common knowledge! I did search both the FORUMS here and the web for an answer, and EITHER I don't really know the right keywords or this is a rare circumstance. Thank you in advance for any insight you can offer me! to chance what core a thing is using go to task manager and go to the processes tab and locate the process (an easy WAY to do this is go to the applications tab, right click on the application, and hit go to process) Then right click on the process and hit set affinitiy. Change the core its using there
